Ephesians 4:17-24 (The Message Version) – “And so I insist – and God backs me up on this – that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They’ve refused for so long to deal with God hat they’ve lost touch with not only God but with reality itself. They cant think straight anymore. Feeling no pain, they let themselves go in sexual obsession, addicted to every sort of perversion. But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything – and I do mean everything – connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And the take on an entirely new way of life – a God fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.”
After accepting Jesus Christ your life is not the same. There should be a difference in how you live your life. A lot of people still live the same lives they do as they did before the followed Christ. Not a perfect life, but a changed life, a life of progression. Challenging ourselves to grow and mature in Christianity. You shouldn’t turn up the same or even talk to or about people the same way. You have a responsibility to change your character and who you are.
How is it that we experience this change?
We have to go against the grain of our environment. (Verse 17) For you to accept Jesus you should no longer walk or engage in the activities that the non-believers are. There should be a CLEAR difference. Although you live among them, you don’t have to live like them! You are called to be different. You are the light in this dark world. You can’t go off what the world tells you, but go by the bible tells you!
Take off the evidence of your old life. (Verse 21) Put on the new man, and take off the old man. Picture someone changing clothes. Put on the new. The new is clean, and righteous, not trying to be fake. Don’t act like you never wore those old clothes, walk in your present, and not in your past. Change your ways. Love people more, give to more people, and flee from evil. Walk in the new. Stop hanging around some folks. And stop going to the old places. People will walk out on you. You should stop holding on to old stuff, when God is trying to do a new thing in your life.
Evoking new ways of thinking. (Verse 20) You will be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Change your thinking. Change your thought process. Get away from sinful, holy and righteous things. Stop thinking about what’s now, but instead what is pleasing to God. Stop thinking about the negative, God will always be with you. The Lord shall take care of me.
