Man Crush of The Month: Marshal

HAPPY LAST MONTH OF THE YEAR!!!! December is probably my second favorite month, but December has my favorite man crush thus far! This month’s man crush is none other than Marshal! I actually met Marshal through Hampton University’s Student Recruitment Team in 2013. He’s literally one of the most chill and cool. Like he’s the epitome of a cool guy. Marshal is a single, 24 years old, from Chino, California! He is the co-founder of a start-up, The Greenrose Agency. The Greenrose Agency is a digital marketing products sand services retailer and their agents offer specialized consultation and support around their product catalog. He is also an aspiring polymath – He loves to create and produce creative content of all kinds. He’s an obsessive sports fan and fantasy sports player and he has a passion for the history of African American music. Now on to the questions!

IMG_2427

How would you describe your personality in three words?

Passionate. Driven. Balanced.

Which do you prefer to listen to your heart or your brain? Why?

I honestly believe you should try a little of both. I’m as much an artist as a scientist.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Always and forever Lauren London.

Who do you think should make the first move males or females? Why?

I think if that person motivates you to make a move, male or female, you should listen that voice in your head saying, “shoot your shot”

What’s the longest relationship you’ve been in? What did you learn?

The longest relationship I was in lasted for about 4 1/2 years. And the biggest thing that I learned is that loving someone isn’t about finding someone perfect, but about finding someone your willing to accept is imperfect and also acknowledges that you are. If you know of that person, let them know.

What motivational words would you tell someone on the come-up?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever personally heard and have applied is “turn fear into a tailwind” sometimes I easily get caught up in anxieties around my personal progress. I’ve learned to use that fear and anxiety to propel rather than paralyze me.

IMG_2327.JPG

What’s the most awkward date that you’ve ever been on?

I don’t think I’ve been on an “awkward” date per se, but I did go on a date once to an art gallery with someone it felt like I couldn’t communicate with for more than 30 seconds.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see myself beginning my second and third planned ventures and planning the IPO of the Greenrose Agency.

What do you usually do to let a girl know that you are interested in her?

I usually try to be straightforward about it, I have to feel comfortable being myself with her to even begin generating an interest.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about yourself?

My favorite thing about myself is my confidence and optimism, my least favorite thing about myself is that confidence sometimes cause me to procrastinate. I play “hero ball” and place unnecessary pressure on myself (sometimes I think it’s because I like the pressure lol)

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

The most influential person in my life easily is my mother. She often says that we “grew up together” and to an extent it’s true. My mom gave birth to me when she was 20 years old, and raised me as a single parent for the first 10 years of my life. She’s my best friend as well as my mom.

IMG_2401

What’s your personal theme song?

“In My Lifetime (Remix)” – Jay-Z

What are your lifetime ambitions?

My lifetime ambitions are to achieve personal peace and become the best version of myself. If fortune or even fame fall somewhere in there, even better.

What are your career goals?

My career goals are to be a serial entrepreneur and investor.

How are you changing the world?

Today, we have made it so that businesses and enterprises are the catalysts and drivers of our society. I honestly believe that it is the responsibility of those who recognize that this is true, to build and design businesses and enterprises that are responsible and do their best to empower the people the they directly effect. I feel that the co-founding the Greenrose Agency to help small business owners is just the start of me doing so.

What’s one thing you want the world to know about you and who you are?

I feel like this is the part where I assert “I’m taking over the world”, but I’m definitely much more of a “show and prove” kind of person.

Why do men often look over the average girl?

I don’t believe they “look over” them, I just believe men fail to mature fast enough to realize things they need instead of things they want early in our lives. It’s unfortunate, but I think it’s true.

Why do guys tend to hide their feelings and not fully express them?

I’ve recently tried to do better at expressing my feelings. I’m a believer that being emotional and masculine are not mutually exclusive. Many men may tell you different, but there are a lot of hurt women who can definitely tell you otherwise.

What do guys do to make them feel better after a long day? What are your forms of self-care?

I actually practice meditation, taking sometime to tend to your mind and your thoughts is really important. We can find ourselves carrying around a lot of baggage.

IMG_2428

What are you most afraid of living in today’s society?

I’m most afraid of the lack of empathy I see from people everyday. I believe that too few people are trying to widen their perspectives and actually understand other people.

How do you seize and take advantage of every single day?

I do my best to be present, my lifestyle requires me to think a lot about the future and what will happen tomorrow so a lot of times I try to remember to be in the moment to really take in and process what’s going on at that moment.

What do you feel men aren’t recognized enough for?

I actually think that in general, men are recognized a bit too much. We hear about the accomplishments of men all throughout history. I actually believe that it should be men’s responsibility to acknowledge the accomplishments of women. Who else will?

What’s the most discouraging part about being a man? How do you deal with it?

I’ll specify a bit more to being a black man…However, the most discouraging part of being a black man is the fact that we are conditioned to live fearful lives and to make fearful choices. Black masculinity is predicated in fear and insecurity. We are told that we shouldn’t let someone disrespect us, so we fear the result of allowing it to pass without displays of greater masculinity or violence. We are told that we shouldn’t show emotion, as a result we fear the doing and fight it adamantly. Our nature is not predicated in facing our problems, but instead fearing the appropriate courses of action and waving them off as “soft”. Once you’ve realized that mindset does not stand to benefit you in any way, as a black man you feel cheated of a truly free life…

Do you have a brand? Share what it’s purpose, mission and goals here –

As I explained before, I’m the co-founder of The Greenrose Agency. Our goal is to empower small business owners and individuals through digital marketing products and services to grow their businesses and brands in a cost effective way. We are striving to create an unparalleled consumer experience within the digital marketing industry, a brand and retailer people can trust to help them navigate a murky and intimidating landscape.

Man Crush of the Month: Tavon

Happy November!!! This is one of my favorite months – not just because of Thanksgiving but because Tavon is our Man Crush of the Month! He is such a sweet guy, I really adore him so much. He is a single, 23-year-old from Warner Robins, Georgia. He absolutely loves being a dad! He also loves to cook and do spoken word. He also is a huge sneaker head and is addicted to shoe-shopping. Something that is interesting about Tavon is that he is a Chef, owns multiple businesses and is a movie junkie!

Tavon4

How would you describe your personality in three words?

Giving, Goofy, Spontaneous

Which do you prefer to listen to your heart or your brain? Why?

My heart. Your brain doesn’t have that “instinct” to judge personal situations.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Fantasia – Country, Thick and Chocolate.

Who do you think should make the first move – males or females? Why?

I’m from the Deep South – where chivalry is extremely serious at least to me. So, males should make the first move in my opinion.

What’s the longest relationship you’ve been in? What did you learn?

6 years, sometimes it’s just best to walk away and not force things. Forcing something leads to resentment.

What motivational words would you tell someone on the come-up?

It’s not gonna be easy, but keep God first and push through.

What’s the most awkward date that you’ve been on?

I didn’t know she had a boyfriend, but we ran into him on our date. And she didn’t know her boyfriend had a boyfriend who happened to also be on a date. It was weird.

Where do you se yourself in the next five years?

Married and opening up my 3rd or 4th restaurant and opening up my 2nd or 3rd detailing garage.

Tavon1

What do you usually do to let a girl know that you are interested in her?

I speak directly to her, Steph Curry at all times.

What is your favorite and least favorite things about yourself?

I love how outgoing I am and I hate how naiver I am (I think everyone is my friend).

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

My dad, he taught me how to be a man before he was killed. Then my son, he made me a better man.

Tavon3

What’s your personal theme song?

Don’t laugh, but it’s Rich Gang – Lifestyle.

What are you lifetime ambitions?

Just to be successful and be the best father I can be.

What are your career goals?

Build something that my family can keep running when I’m gone.

Why do men often overlook the average girl?

The generation we live in glorifies the wrong girl. We don’t know what a real woman is because we overlook them.

Why do guys tend to hide your feelings and not fully express them?

Pride. Simply put, it’ll make you lose out on a lot.

What are your forms of self-care?

I personally lift weights and play with my son.

What are you most afraid of living in today’s society?

Falling by the way-side. Not living up to my expectations or potential.

How do you seize and take advantage of every single day?

Take it one minute at a time. Schedules help you out a lot too.

What do you feel men aren’t recognized enough for?

Being fathers, fathers are automatically looked at as a “no-no.”

What is the most discouraging part about being a man? How do you deal with it?

We’re looked at as something we’re not a times. It’s okay for a guy to feel hurt at times.

What’s one thing you want the world to know about you and who you are?

I’m an educated black man and a full time father. I’ve made mistakes but I am not a bad person.

Man Crush of the Month: Tra’von Armond

August is my favorite month of the year! The weather starts to break and it is not awfully hot anymore. It is also my pleasure and honor to introduce this month’s man crush Tra’Von Armond Williams or Tra’Von Armond formerly “Traykash.” I first met Tra’Von during Honors Visitation Weekend at Hampton University in 2011 and it has truly been an honor to watch him flourish. He was literally the Big Man on Campus that everyone wanted to either be like or get to know. He’s 22 years old from Columbia, South Carolina. He’s taken (sorry ladies)! Tra’Von Armond is an brand manager, and entertainment connoisseur who is passionate about elevating artistic talents into professional careers. He is involved in assisting talent with the necessary backing in order to propel their brands to higher levels. He has also worked with television and radio networks, and small businesses, which all provided the much needed experience that lead him to collaborate with several notable companies on an array of marketing campaigns to include Revolt TV, and Atlantic Records. With his charismatic personality, humble nature, and determined mentality he is sure to “shake the industry.”

travon-2

Now on the rest of the interview!

Do you have any interesting fun facts about yourself?

As a kid, I enjoyed watching shows like Dragon Ball Z, The Crocodile Hunter, 106 & Park.

How would you describe your personality in three words?

Personable, Understanding, Motivated

Which do you prefer to listen to your heart or your brain? Why?

I prefer to listen to my heart. I believe that God speaks to us through our hearts, and not our minds.

Who is your celebrity crush?

She was on one side of the screen and I was on the couch, and ever since we laid eyes while I watching ATL, Lauryn London has been my lady. Of course she doesn’t know this special moment, but I remember it just like yesterday !

Who do you think should make the first move males or females? Why?

I think men should make the first move. If a man and woman are both in the same room, and the man doesn’t make the first move, it simply means he isn’t as interested as he could be.

What’s the longest relationship you’ve been in? What did you learn?

The longest relationship I been in wasn’t consistent but it lasted off and on for over six years. Through my mistakes, I learned how to be a man and not a boy.

What motivational words would you tell someone on the come-up?

My favorite quote is, “Don’t complain about how much is on your plate, when your goal was to eat.” I use this because we oftentimes want to reach success, however we sometimes fail to realize with on our journey towards success the roads can become overwhelming.

What’s the most awkward date that you’ve ever been on?

Ha, I’m an awkward person, so a typical awkward date in my eyes was a very normal one.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next five years I see myself finishing all of my professional schooling, and beginning to live out all of my dreams.

What do you usually do to let a girl know that you are interested in her?

Not to sound like a creep but I try to be in the same environment as her as much as possible without acknowledging her. I promise not a stalker lol, maybe this answer did not come out the way I intended it to !

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about yourself?

My favorite thing about myself is that how determined I am, and my least favorite is that I oftentimes care what people think of me.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

Behind God and my mother of course, the most influential person in my life is Sean P.Diddy Combs. I admire his work ethic, his own determination and his success.

What’s your personal theme song?

My personal theme song is Hustler Musik – Lil Wayne

What are your lifetime ambitions?

One day I want to be able to impact the world on a global level. It would be amazing to win a Nobel Peace Prize.

What are your career goals?

Honestly, I want to either be a CEO of Universal Music Group or Viacom, and I wont stop until I make it.

travon-1

Why do guys tend to hide your feelings and not fully express them?

Guys are conditioned to not show feelings or show their emotions because society deems that as not being masculine enough.

What do guys do to make them feel better after a long day? What are your forms of self-care?

I can’t speak for every man but I know for me SLEEP is everything. I feel much better after a good nap.

What are you most afraid of living in today’s society?

A Trump society, literally !

How do you seize and take advantage of every single day?

I seize and take advantage of every single day through organization. Recently I purchased this black journal from Office Depot. This journal serves as an organizational tool providing a place to jot down my “to-do list”, notes, ideas, and biblical inspirational quotes.

What’s the most discouraging part about being a man? How do you deal with it?

The most discouraging part about being a man is the burden of trying to fulfill societal expectations of being a good man.

How are you changing the world?

I believe I am changing the world by giving young men a proper role model to admire and strive to be greater than.

What’s one thing you want the world to know about you and who you are?

I want the world to know, that if you get a chance to get to know me, I am not the person you may have heard about. Get to know me for me, and not for what you have heard. I promise you will not regret it !

Do you have a brand? Share what it’s purpose, mission and goals here –

Well you guys are the first to hear it but I am in the process of rebranding from “TrayKash” to Tra’VonArmond. Still stay #PluggedIn for what’s to come. I am still the same me, just the documentary from a different angle. Meanwhile you can follow me @Tra’VonArmond ( I think this article will release after the big switch)

Man Crush of the Month: Quenton Jordan

Happy  June!!! I know you all have been waiting so patiently for this month’s man crush! This month’s crush is Quenton Jordan. He’s a major heartthrob from Chicago, IL – he’s 22 years old and single (!!!). We both attended Hampton University and he is a person I definitely look up to. He has this crazy work ethic and natural intelligence that I admire so much.  He embodies the “grind day is everyday” lifestyle. He is currently juggling two careers: one as a business and technology integration analyst at one of the world’s largest consulting firms (fancy lol) and the other as the Co-Founder of a non-profit organization geared towards revitalizing the concept of financial literacy and spreading it to underrepresented groups throughout the U.S. His main hobby is to give back to those who’ve paved the way for myself and others and to those less fortunate than myself. He also enjoys long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and other overly romantic activities (“ladies, peep the relationship status”). He truly enjoys trying new foods, watching movies, arguing about sports, and learning new things.

quenton-4

What makes Quenton most unique is that he is extremely fun to be around and that’s not something everyone can honestly say. He came from a difficult background and now he’s making it to where he is today, puts him in a great position to where he is relatable to people from, almost, all walks of life. He tends to have a different perspective than most people on a number of topics, which makes conversations with him very informative and just great overall. Everyone walks away with some additional knowledge. That’s unique because most people can’t tell you the last thing they learned while in a random conversation.

Now on the rest of the interview!Quenton 6.PNG

Do you have any interesting fun facts about yourself?

I’m the funniest person I’ve ever met.

How would you describe your personality in three words?

Dope Ass Individual

Which do you prefer to listen to your heart or your brain? Why?

Brain – I’m a logical person

Who is your celebrity crush?

Draya

Who do you think should make the first move males or females? Why?

Ladies first, as any true gentleman would say.

What’s the longest relationship you’ve been in? What did you learn?

3 years – Working relationships are all about sacrifice and timing.

What motivational words would you tell someone on the come-up?

If you don’t plan on giving 100% just stop while you’re ahead. Half-ass effort breeds half-ass results. You’ll be beaten by someone who’s fully committed every time.

What’s the most awkward date that you’ve ever been on?

I went out with a girl who was extremely attractive, based on appearance, but she couldn’t hold a convo about anything relevant. I hate wasting words about dumb stuff, so I cut the date short.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next five years, I’ll either be in my final year of an MBA program (Harvard or NYU, fingers crossed) or I will have just obtained my MBA. My nonprofit will have tripled in size and quadrupled in impact. I’ll be working on becoming a life coach, and hopefully, my first child will be here making me the happiest man in the world.

quenton-7

What do you usually do to let a girl know that you are interested in her?

Like pictures from months ago on IG.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about yourself?

My favorite thing about myself is that I’m fully aware of my strengths and areas that could use improvement. My least favorite thing about myself is that I don’t take the time to really appreciate small things, achievements, etc. I’m always looking for what’s next as soon as I complete the last thing. I don’t celebrate myself enough.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

My grandfather.

What’s your personal theme song?

Turn My Swag On – Soulja Boy aka Big Draco

How are you changing the world?

I’m directly and indirectly challenging every person I interact with to step their game up and become the best them they can be.

Why do men often look over the average girl?

Because if you’re ‘average’ then that means there are millions more like you, and I already know everything I need to know about you without you having to tell me. There needs to be something unique that attracts me to you over the tons of other ‘average’ people walking around. I don’t think anyone should refer to themselves as ‘average’ or ‘typical’ or anything of that sort. Makes you sound dull. If I ask you to tell me about yourself, you should be able to go on forever because you know yourself better than anyone else and should love talking about how great you are. I know I’m not average, so why would I settle for that?

Why do guys tend to hide your feelings and not fully express them?

This has traditionally been viewed as being feminine. Most men, including myself, still live with this mindset in certain situations.

quenton-3

How do you seize and take advantage of every single day?

I set daily goals – what do I want to get accomplished today, what do I need to ensure that it happens. I set long term goals with incremental steps in between and work on achieving them daily. I ensure that I leave every day with a new piece of knowledge on at least one topic.

What do you feel men aren’t recognized enough for?

People, in general, aren’t recognized enough for their individual contributions to making the world a better place. I wouldn’t categorize it based on gender. I actually wouldn’t categorize it at all. I think this is better when looked at on an individual basis.

What’s one thing you want the world to know about you and who you are?

I don’t have any talents that others can’t acquire. I simply take advantage of every learning opportunity and train myself mentally to be able to tackle any obstacles in my way. If everyone did the same, the world would be a better place.

Do you have a brand? Share what it’s purpose, mission, and goals here –

RichBefore25 has been my personal brand for the last few years and has recently developed into a business concept, which is in the beginning phases of building its own brand. RichBefore25 is a nonprofit agency focused on spreading financial literacy to members of traditionally underrepresented groups throughout the United States, motivating individuals to pursue their passions, and providing mentorship to those in need. Acting as a connector, linking forward-thinking firms, organizations, and individuals to members of the target demographic, RichBefore25 seeks to leave a lasting impact on communities across the country.

Why do guys tend to hide your feelings and not fully express them?

It has always been the status quo for a guy to be strong and fearless of what life throws at them. Personally, my dad is a solid rock if he did show any emotions he would show it in private. You could never know what he was thinking.

What do guys do to make them feel better after a long day? What are your forms of self-care?

Relax change from my work clothes, watch Netflix and just relax

What are you most afraid of living in today’s society?

Paying off my student loans

How do you seize and take advantage of every single day?

Wake up and smile. Once I smile it makes my day better and keeps me from letting anything negative mess it up I know I god has given me the opportunity to start a new day and make the most of it

Man Crush of the Month Series

Hey, Ladies! Ladies & Company blog is becoming a place to encourage women (and men) to like be their best self, whatever that means to them.

I wanted to start this segment, Man Crush of the Month, as a way to deal with a lot of the negativity surround men today. I feel like every day on social media, there is someone out there bashing men. For me, it causes a lot of confusion because I see so many young men out there doing their thing. As a way to combat this, I wanted to showcase all the great things the men in my life are doing.

The guys I am featuring are all the cream of the crop – doing great things in life, for their community, furthering their education, educating others, and just doing such great things. I can’t even begin to tell them all how proud I am of all of the things they are accomplishing! With that being said, I want to showcase them and all of their greatness on my blog and with all of my beautiful readers

With that being said, I want to showcase them and all of their greatness on my blog and with all of my beautiful readers – So on the first Monday, of every month there will be a young man featured and you (the reader) will be able to read and get to know them a little bit!

The first month’s issue will be next Monday – be sure to check back on there!

Man Crush Monday: Beard Edition

So as most people know, November is No-Shave November. This is an initiative to raise awareness about cancer, as many cancer patients lose their hair. The goal is for the people who are going without shaving to donate all the money that they would normally use to cancer research, as well as educate others about cancer prevention (and promote and talk about going to the doctors – which a large portion of men do not go nor talk about.). I am not exactly sure if that is why some of my friends participate, but I do think it is a worthy cause. 🙂

So here are my favorite beards of all times (in no particular order)!

screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-1-39-41-pm

My dear friend, Justin. His beard is so just perfect to me! It’s light brown with blonde in it! and it really accents his eyes! If you wanna see more of Justin and his law school chronicles follow him on Instagram.

Screen Shot 2016-11-18 at 2.13.42 PM.png

Chance H. !! Follow him on Twitter! Or on snap chat @chvnce1 – He’s low-key a celebrity. I highly suggest you follow him on snap chat because he’s really funny and adorable. His beard is like baby hairs and just grows perfectly!

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-9-59-13-pmDrake… because yum! I honestly don’t know anyone who doesn’t like love Drake’s beard. It just looks so perfect on his face. His IG is @ChampagnePapi

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-10-03-52-pm

Solange Knowles Husband – Alan Ferguson. He’s a music video director and something about a bald head and a flourishing beard is inspiring. He always keeps it clean and groomed. #BeardGoals

Screen Shot 2016-11-18 at 3.39.00 PM.png

King Keraun. He’s like the funniest dude on the internet! One of the main reasons I started watching and following him (outside of the fact that he’s hilarious and he’s in some of Simone Shepherd’s videos) is because of his beard. Follow him on IG, twitter, or like his facebook page.

So I don’t know these guys, but I love their beards… So they get featured as well 🙂

Hope you enjoyed it! Do you love beards? Or do you prefer your man to be clean cut? Share below in the comments about what you think!

XOXO,

– Tanesha

Dear Friends or more?

Hi Ladies, So I dated this guy like three years ago, and due the distance we broke up (I went to another country). We still remained friends, i mean best friends even! We can both be freely ourselves, as Christians. We are both waiting until marriage for sex and stuff. And it was a genuinely great time together. But now he’s coming to the same country as me to study. We’ve considered redating but I fear young people may judge our relationship because he’s a year younger than me. I mean he’s going to be at a completely different university as a freshman, and freshman year consists of A LOT of partying. Do I continue as friends with him, or date him and risk our good friendship? – Friends or more?

Dear Friends or More,

I would say follow your heart. Don’t worry about what other people will think about him being younger than you. I have dated men younger than me and nobody ever judged me for going younger. If you walk in confidence and feel comfortable about dating a younger man than nobody will even notice that he is younger, but if you walk around feeling like people are judging you then they will. As TdotRenae’s mother advised us, “You want a man that is younger than you because then you can train him to be the way you want him to be.” This is great advice because it makes sense and it is doable within a maturity level. If he is mature enough to be trained and still act his age then you have a keeper. I hope this helps!

I know we always talk about how guys are this, and guys aren’t that, but lately i’ve been thinking about what makes a guy really appreciates their woman. Or what they really want/love in their woman. So this is for all the women out there who don’t feel appreciated by the guys in their life. I asked a bunch of guys I know, that are really sweet and charming what they appreciate in a woman. They had to complete the sentence: “I am a man who appreciates a woman who…”
